Alter EGO is a drama group for young people aged 14-25 with learning disabilities, neurodivergence, special educational needs and/or autism.

Alter EGO have so much fun as they work hard together to produce eclectic, surprising and exceptional theatre performances.

Where does Alter EGO take place?

Alter EGO meets at EGO Arts Venue on Fleet St in Coventry City Centre. For more information, visit egoarts.co.uk/our-venue

Alter EGO meets every Wednesday evening, 6pm-8pm, all year round.

Yes. Plenty of Alter EGO members have gone on to join the EGO Creative Academy, our highest standard of performance training for neurodivergent and/or learning disabled adults. Once you join the EGO Creative Academy, you are part of a performing ensemble that tours professional productions to theatres across the UK. No. You can be a complete beginner, or even unsure if acting is for you. Alter EGO is for everyone. We will work with your ambition and ability level, however big or small.

Each workshop is run by professional actors, writers and directors with years of experience facilitating workshops for people of all abilities. They are friendly, fun and absolutely love warm-up games.

You can access Alter EGO with an EGO membership, which costs £40 a month. We never charge our actors extra for costumes or additional rehearsals – it’s all covered by your monthly fee. For more information, visit egoarts.co.uk/membership

Yes. With Alter EGO, you are always working towards your next production. Through improvisations in groups, you will devise ideas for the next production. Then, the directors will take all your ideas and turn them into a script. You will rehearse this script over a few months, then perform it in front of an audience with professional sound, lights and costume!

Not exactly – some of our shows have original songs and a small amount of dance, but it’s rare that we’ll do an all-out musical.

No. However, you will get real experience of devising shows, performing in front of an audience, make new friends, and build invaluable skills in confidence and communication. You’ll also be in the running for EGO’s annual awards ceremony…
