EGO's New Venue

How to find us

EGO has moved... again!

As of Monday 24th February 2025, we are now based at The Old Boys Club, Fleet St, Coventry, CV1 3AY.

The Old Boys Club is a small but perfectly formed community space in Coventry City Centre. It's nestled next to St John the Baptist Church on the corner of Fleet St and Corporation St, at the bottom of Spon St.

Why are we moving again?

We moved into the previous building (The Old Grammar School) on a five-month lease, with the option of extending to five years. However, we decided it’s not the right place for us.

Is the new place temporary too?

Sort of. We have signed a five-year lease with the option to get out after three years. We will be there for at least three years while we continue the search for our forever home.

Where is the new building?

The Old Boys Club is a small but perfectly formed community space in Coventry City Centre. Nestled next to St John the Baptist Church on the corner of Fleet St and Corporation St, it’s a detached building set back behind an old metal gate. If you stand at the front gate, you can see New Look on your left, Spon St on your right, and IKEA straight ahead.

Does this affect my weekly sessions?

No, they will carry on as normal at the new place.

How do I get there by bus?

The nearest row of bus stops (St Johns Church/the old Co-op) is served by the  6, 6A, 9, 9S, 11, 14, 14A, 17, 17A, 18, 18A, 21, 21A, 21S, 51, 87, 188, X17, X18, X18A. We’re a ten-minute walk from Pool Meadow bus station.

How do I drop someone off by car?

There is space for drop-offs on Spon St. Exit the Ring Road at Junction 7, head towards IKEA and turn left, then left again after the Town Crier pub.

Where is the nearest car park?

There’s a small car park on Spon St, and parking on Lower Holyhead Rd. Both are pay & display. The nearest big car park is Belgrade Plaza.

Which entrance should I use?

If you’re arriving for a session, come to the metal gate on Fleet St, to the left of St John’s Church. If in doubt, give us a call on the EGO phone, 07476208935.

Why have we chosen the Old Boys Club?

It’s small but perfectly formed, and it’s nice and warm, and set back from the main street so it’s quieter. It contains a small studio theatre space and two side rooms suitable for our Production Arts and music groups. The building belongs to a charity, meaning our funding that pays for rent will continue to be used for good causes.

Why is it called the Old Boys Club?

Behind our new building is a very old school building which dates back to 1560 and used to be the home of Bablake, a boys-only school. Our building is a 19th-century schoolhouse which was more recently a social club for ex-students of Bablake.

Will shows be performed in there?

Yes.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Yes. All rooms are on the ground floor, which is accessible by ramp. There is an accessible toilet.

What else is going on at EGO these days?

There's never been a busier time at EGO. We run 11 ensembles every week, spanning performance, music and production arts. Sign up to our newsletter at the bottom of this page to stay up to date.
